If you liked this year’s film slate – and judging by the mammoth box office returns for films like Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, The Incredibles 2 and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, among others, you did — then we have some great news for you: 2019 promises to be bigger and better.
Next year’s calendar of comic book films will see Marvel introducing its newest hero, Captain Marvel, and capping off the third phase of its Cinematic Universe with April’s Avengers: Endgame. In July, Spider-Man will help usher in a new wave of superhero storytelling in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Fox will counter with two X-Men films —The New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
After scoring with Aquaman earlier this month, DC will continue to chart a new path for its superhero slate with the Toronto-shot Shazam! and a standalone Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix.
Meanwhile, Star Wars fans won’t have to wait much longer for their next out-of-this-world fix. Star Wars: Episode IX, which marks the conclusion of the Skywalker saga, hits screens in December.
Following the wildly successful Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, moviegoers will be treated to a warts-and-all look at Elton John in Rocketman.
