From (super)hero to villain. Arrow star Stephen Amell has booked a followup series lead role now that the CW superhero drama is filming its 10-episode eighth and final season.

Amell has signed on to topline Heels, an hourlong drama set in the outrageous world of independent professional wrestling, which had been eying an eight-episode series pickup at Starz. With him on board, the project has received a series greenlight and an eight-episode order. READ MORE

Stephen Amell has set his first major post-“Arrow” role.  The actor, who will make his final outing as the bow-wielding super hero this season, has been cast as the lead in a wrestling drama series entitled “Heels,” which has been handed an eight-episode order by Starz.

The hour-long drama is set in a close-knit Georgia community and follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals war over their late father’s legacy. Amell will play the role of Jack Spade, the heel (a wrestling term for villain) in the ring to his brother’s good guy. READ MORE

Stephen Amell is taking aim at his first post-Arrow gig — and it’s right in his wheelhouse’s bull’s-eye. The actor has signed on to headline Heels, an 8-episode drama series at Starz about the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling.

Set in a close-knit Georgia community, Heels follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to (and just as hard to leave behind). The CW’s Arrowverse is going to change in a major way this fall and no, we don’t mean just because of the upcoming Crisis of Infinite Earths crossover. Arrow, the series that started the whole universe of interconnected shows on the network, will end its run leaving The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman to go forward without Oliver Queen. ‘ARROW’ STAR STEPHEN AMELL TO LEAD NEW STARZ WRESTLING SERIES ‘HEELS’
Stephen Amell is hanging up the hood to lace up his wrestling boots in a new series on Starz titled Heels.  Deadline reported that Amell has signed on for Heels, an hour long drama set in the world of independent wrestling. The series was reportedly looking for an eight-episode pickup at Starz, but with Amell now signed on, the cable company has greenlit the project.

Heels is written by Michael Waldron (Loki) and will have Mike O’Malley as its showrunner. O’Malley was the creator and executive producer of Survivor’s Remorse, which ran for four seasons on Starz. READ MORE
