Netflix has renewed the zombie thriller series “Black Summer” for a second season, Variety has learned.

The second season will consist of eight episodes and will begin production next year in Alberta, Canada. Jaime King will return to star in the second season and will also serve as a producer. Cast members Justin Chu Cary and Christine Lee will also return.

The series was created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams. The pair served as co-showrunners on Season 1, though Hyams will serve as the sole showrunner on Season 2.  READ MORE


ZOMBIE DRAMA ‘BLACK SUMMER’ RENEWED FOR SEASON 2 ON NETFLIX
The spinoff of Syfy series ‘Z Nation’ stars Jaime King. The zombie apocalypse will continue on Netflix.

The streamer has ordered a second season of Black Summer, a spinoff of former Syfy series Z Nation. Like the first season, which debuted in April on Netflix, season two will run for eight episodes. It is slated to begin production next year in Canada; a premiere date hasn’t been set. READ MORE

Black Summer, the zombie series starring Jamie King, will be returning to Netflix for a second season of 8 episodes. King will reprise her role as lead character Rose, in addition to serving as an executive producer. Also returning are series regulars Justin Chu Cary as Spears and Christine Lee as Kyungsun. Season 2 is scheduled to begin shooting next year in Alberta, Canada.

The show was something of a sleeper hit for Netflix. Although the streaming giant is notoriously tight-lipped about its ratings, they did release a ranking of the top ten most-streamed shows on the platform in the U.K., with Black Summer sitting pretty atop the list, high above the clawing reach of the army of the dead. Netflix has ordered an eight-episode second season of zombie thriller Black Summer, headlined by Jaime King. Production is slated to begin in 2020 in Alberta, Canada.

King is set to return as Rose and also will serve as a producer for Season 2. Also coming back are Justin Chu Cary as Spears; Christine Lee as Kyungsun.

Black Summer, a Netflix Studio Production, is created and executive produced byZ Nation co-creator/executive producer Karl Schaefer and the Syfy zombie apocalypse drama’s co-executive producerJohn Hyams.
