This morning, Disney dropped the full-length trailer for Guy Ritchie’s live-action remake of Aladdin and unsurprisingly, the movie looks like it’ll be great, capturing the magic and whimsy of the 1992 animated original.
With several weeks having passed since the Internet lost its mind over the first glimpse of Will Smith in all of his blue glory as the Genie, it’s time to revisit the issue now that the footage proves the “controversy” was all for naught.
When the first images of Smith’s character (first portrayed by the late Robin Williams in voice only) were deemed as “too humanoid” back in December, Smith had to assure everyone on social media that he’d be blue and CGI for most of the film. When fans finally did get to see what he was talking about in a teaser aired during the Grammys, they made comparisons between the uncanny valley and Arrested Development’s Tobias Fünke. READ MORE

On Tuesday, the studio dropped the trailer, which recreates many of the most beloved sequences in the original animated film, including the opening chase through Agrabah, the journey into the Cave of Wonders, meeting the Genie, as well as Aladdin taking Jasmine on that fateful magic-carpet ride.
