Suits star Farid Yazdani has released a brand new clip from the highly anticipated pilot “Day Players”. The 2-min snippet features local canadian stars Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black), Rachel Wilson (Breaker High) & Canadian Comedy Award Winner Naomi Snieckus (Mr. D).
Day Players follows the lives of six Toronto actors taking the world’s most bizarre acting class together. Think Community meets Inside the Actor’s Studio, with a little Scott Pilgrim-style surrealism sprinkled in, minus the kung-fu fights (although we’re not ruling anything out).
Day Players takes place in the modern day, real world. However, it’s showcased through an overproduced hyper-reality. Juxtaposing any melodrama is a kind of self-aware, satirical cinematography, which is supported by cutaway gags, flashbacks, character fantasies and inner monologue. Essentially, these characters all think that they’re star of their own movie, and Day Players often presents the world as if that were actually true.
After being fired from his latest small time, walk-on acting job, NAVEEN (Farid) rallies slacker roommate, fellow actor, DEVIN (Brendan Jeffers) , and former child-star, BLAKE (Brock Morgan) to take a local acting class in hopes of spring-boarding his career. In the class, taught by the eccentric PROFESSOR EDMUND (Adam Tsekhman), the guys find quick friends in the hard-edged TRINITY (Shiva Negar) and serious method actor VINCENT (Julian Robino). Naveen is shocked to learn that his ex-girlfriend, and now up coming super model, VERONICA (Ashley Leggat), is also taking the class.
