FIRST LOOK: RYAN REYNOLDS LENDS HIS VOICE TO ‘DETECTIVE PIKACHU’ IN LIVE-ACTION POKEMON MOVIE [TRAILER]

Move over Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds has a new alter ego.

Move over Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds has a new alter ego.

The Canadian actor voices everyone’s favourite Pokemon, Pikachu, in the first trailer for the very cute live-action “Detective Pikachu” movie. And yes, it’s a real movie.

Set in a neon-lit world where people and Pokemon co-exist, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” actor Justice Smith is Tim, the son of a missing detective. When Tim discovers he has the unique gift of being able to understand his dad’s former wise-cracking partner, Pikachu – unlike his fellow citizens who only hear him adorably chirp “pika pika.” The new pals embark on a quest to uncover the mystery surrounding his dad’s disappearance, uncovering a shockingly diabolical plot that could upset their very universe.

In his very first live-action outing, Pikachu is a fully-rendered character who seamlessly blends into his real-world environment, looking more like a fluffy little rodent with a lightning-bolt tail than his smooth anime form. And he’s not the only Pokemon around.

There’s plenty of other Pokemon to see including Mr. Mime, Charmander, Bulbasaur and Jigglypuff who all appear in the movie alongside human counterparts Ken Watanabe, Kathryn Newton and Suki Waterhouse.
