We Will Rock You is finally coming home to rock the Jubilee.
The exclusive North American touring version of the Queen jukebox musical was created in Calgary and Medicine Hat this past summer by Jeff Parry’s Annerin Productions. It had its premiere in Winnipeg Dec. 3 before heading into the U.S. for three months for 74 performances in 55 cities, ending the first leg of its tour in Windsor, Ont., on Dec. 1. It begins the second leg with a three-day, five-performance run at the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary Dec. 27 to 29 and has bookings in Canada until Feb. 19.
Calgarian Vanessa Mitchell is one of 10 Albertans in the 16-member, all-Canadian cast. The tour had her performing in the prestigious Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles and the Hulu Theatre in New York’s Madison Square Gardens, but it’s the upcoming Calgary engagement that has her most excited.
“I grew up in Calgary and I grew up seeing touring musicals at the Jubilee. Those experiences at the Jubilee are part of how I fell in love with theatre, so getting to perform at the Jubilee is special for me,” says Mitchell.
The whole experience of being cast in We Will Rock You has brought things full circle for Mitchell.
