    STORYLINE:
VEENA KUMAR (40s) possesses a supernatural ability to predict the weather. She lives a solitary, ecofriendly life in the quaint coastal town of St. John’s, Newfoundland where she uses her gifts incognito as the local television meteorologist that always gets it right. When Veena’s mother dies of a heart attack south of the border, she tells her family that she won’t be making it home to New Jersey for the funeral. Given her traumatic and complicated relationship with her family, she doesn’t think she will be able to get through it. A spontaneous visit from her young niece MIA (19), however, provides Veena with the strength and inspiration to return home to the United States for the funeral to confront her old demons – one of whom is still living. Following the funeral and a short stay in her childhood home, Veena begins to see her mother’s apparition. INDIRA (60s) tries desperately to mend her relationship with her daughter, pleading with Veena to forgive her for her difficult upbringing and revealing her own childhood abuse during the British occupation of India. Psychologically unraveling in the midst of the 6th largest mass extinction in the history of the planet, Veena begins to receive strange prophetic messages in her sleep and is convinced they are being sent by the Creator – the same source she credits her prescient visions with. In order to share this message with the world, Veena decides to strategically re-engage with BARRY LONDON (60s), a former predator and current studio head of Galaxy Broadcasting Company in New York. Indira warns her daughter not to engage with Barry, but Veena becomes determined to be the Weather Woman on ‘Good Day’, the network’s national morning show. Barry, who will stop at nothing to get Veena back and harness her power for personal gain, hands her the job. Veena’s Keeping it 100! weather segments are a sensational hit in troubling times of escalating extreme weather. But what Barry and ‘Good Day’ viewers don’t see coming is what Veena is about to do on live television.

    CASTING:

VEENA – LEAD ROLE – FEMALE – 43-53 YRS OLD – SOUTH ASIAN
    MUST be an ACTRA Member
VEENA, late 40s Athletic. South Asian ancestry. Stoic, enigmatic character that possesses a quiet strength/resilience. “On” for the camera for her job as a meteorologist where she is television perfection, but otherwise leads a solitary, controlled, and cautious life. Intelligent, disciplined and observant. Possesses a supernatural ability to predict the weather and forsee the future. Has a special connection with the planet/mother nature. A survivor of trauma with PTSD, this film is as much about her inner world as it is about the people and events around her; that distinction between her inner and outer world blurs as the story progresses.

BARRY – LEAD ROLE – MALE OR FEMALE – 53-65 YRS OLD – CAUCASIAN
    MUST be an ACTRA Member
White. Charming, successful, privileged and darkly duplicitous. A persistent predator that is used to getting what he wants and doing as he pleases. Obsessed with Veena and exploiting/owning/selling her power. Like the best of abusive men, he hides in the deep cover of wit, charm and success. When Veena reconnects with Barry in order to get on the national morning show, “Good Day”, his romantic and charming facade nearly sucks Veena back into their decade-old abusive relationship.

MIA – LEAD ROLE – FEMALE – 17-26 YRS OLD – SOUTH ASIAN
    MUST be an ACTRA Member
South Asian ancestry. Dark and artsy – a cool, smart and likeable Gen-Y teen. A part of the woke generation that contrasts with the world Veena grew up in. Mia inspires her aunt and gives her hope for the future. She also convinces Veena to return home for her mother’s funeral. Her carefreeness is a sharp contrast to Veena’s more controlled and composed personality.

LAYLA – LEAD ROLE – FEMALE – 40-59 YRS OLD – ANY RACE
    MUST be an ACTRA Member
Tough biker-chick look. Restores old paintings for a living. Sincere and empathetic. An angelic, mysterious stranger that finds her way in Veena’s life at a difficult time. A good-hearted badass that earns Veena’s trust instantly, Layla understands Veena’s gifts and vulnerabilities, gently nudging her to take back the power that was stolen from her.
