    CASTING:

NEELAM – LEAD ROLE – 15-20 YRS OLD
*Please note we are currently only seeking performers who identify as Queer*
17, Cis Femme Woman. Gender-fluid is ok. South Asian, Black, OR Indo Caribbean. Our ‘lead,’ an older shy, secretive but passionate teenager. She is exploring her boundaries with her best friend Maya who she is secretly in love with. She comes from a strict religious background and has trouble fully expressing and being herself. When she is with Maya, she forgets all her flaws and is almost entranced by the energy they have together. She really does not see the red flags in her own behaviour let alone Maya’s. She’s a good listener, artsy and is slowly coming into her natural beauty – something everyone around her knows except her. She cares deeply. Neelam is humble because of her working-class status.
    Required for both days.
An honorarium of $100.00 will be provided.

MAYA – SUPPORTING ROLE – 17-20 YRS OLD
*Please note we are currently only seeking performers who identify as Queer*
18-19, Cis Femme Woman, also open to gender-fluid. South Asian, Black, OR Indo Caribbean. Maya is a little older and is Neelam’s love interest. She is a hippy, care-free and avoidant type. She has a good idea that her best friend is in love with her, but she herself does not want to admit that as it would make things serious. Maya is more confident and comfortable in her body. She loves to be a tease – simply for Neelam’s attention. She loves Neelam a lot but does not have the courage needed to pursue something serious and instead plays games. Toronto things. Maya is aware of their class difference and her privilege, but never notes anything in particular.
An honorarium of $100.00 will be provided.

SARA – PRINCIPAL ROLE – FEMALE – 40-55 YRS OLD
40’s Cis Femme Woman. South Asian, Black, OR Indo Caribbean. Neelam’s mother. She is not sure what to do with her daughter who is not playing by the rules of their strict religious loyalties. Neelam is not fulfilling the ideal role that Sarah would like. Because of this, a drift and disconnection between mother and child is ever-present. There’s weird and avoidant energy from Sarah, who’s almost always passive-aggressive. She loves her kid but has a hard time with the changes she is seeing.
    Required for 1 day.
An honorarium of $40.00 will be provided.

ELIJAH – PRINCIPAL ROLE – MALE – 45-60 YRS OLD
50’s, Cis Masc Male. South Asian, Black, OR Indo Caribbean. A man who is constantly at war with the world around him. Elijah has unresolved childhood trauma which ferments as adulthood anger issues. He communicates harshly almost all the time when around his daughter Neelam. He too, like his wife, wishes his child would be more ‘women-like.’ He cares for her but can’t be nice about it, he doesn’t know any other way because of the way he was raised.
    Required for 1 day.
An honorarium of $40.00 will be provided.
