    JOB TITLE: Communications Writer

    TERM: Full-Time Permanent

    DEPARTMENT: Marketing & Communications

    SALARY RANGE: $64,080 – $73,234 per annum *please note this is a provisional rating subject to change

Explored through the intersecting worlds of art, culture and nature, the ROM plays a vital role at the local, national and international level advancing knowledge, encouraging learning and inspiring a greater understanding of the world around us.

    Reporting to the AVP Communications, the primary focus of this position is producing and editing compelling and informative material about the Museum, its people and its activities to meet the Museum’s media relations, internal communications and content strategy mandate.  The position works cross-departmentally and with senior management to create materials and facilitate campaigns that enhance the ROM’s profile externally and strengthens communications with employees internally.  With a successful track record of writing in a cultural, media or business environment, the individual in this position is a compelling communicator able to craft well articulated communications about a diverse array of topics.

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a writer/communicator
    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field (4 year degree)
    • Experience in a high-volume media environment or academic/cultural institution
    • Demonstrated creativity and excellence in writing and verbal communications, with an exceptional facility for strategic thinking and problem solving
    • The ability to distill complex information into compelling and accessible content tailored to specific audiences and for various formats
    • Experience writing and editing for a range of stakeholders and target audiences
    • Demonstrated excellence in interviewing and storytelling, with the ability to navigate complex subject matter and challenging issues
    • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple diverse projects and subject matter simultaneously
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, ability to deal with people at all levels of the organisation, including executive leadership
    • Bilingualism is an asset
