Kristen Kreuk has grown up.

The Vancouver native is now a more confidant actor who is looking to tell stories that have strong women at the centre. Case in point is the brand new CBC legal drama series Burden of Truth. Kreuk plays Joanna Hanley, a powerful lawyer that returns to her small prairie town to help solve a health crisis and face her mysterious family history. The show airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. or you can stream anytime at CBC.ca.

“I am a 35 year old woman now,” laughed Kreuk who is probably best known for her eight years as Lana Lang on the WB network’s Superman prequel Smallville. “I was looking for that. I’ve been very lucky with my career but I think made choices probably on a lack of belief in myself and ease, so taking the easiest path and not having a vision. I kept making excuses for myself. If I am going to keep acting, if this is something that I do I want to be able to present characters and tell stories that matter to me. This character is a reflection of my more active choosing in my career.”
