Seth Rogen and The Lonely Island are planning to pile yet more misery of the disastrous Fyre Festival by making a spoof film about the failed event.

The planned music festival, which was scheduled to take place on the Bahamian island of Great Exuma over two weekends in April and May 2017, was uncovered as a fraudulent mess which resulted in founder Billy McFarland being sent to prison. READ MORE

Ah, Fyre Festival—the schadenfreude gift that keeps on giving. Ever since the purported luxury music getaway imploded in April of 2017, the saga of the doomed festival and its con man founder, Billy McFarland, has provided onlookers with plenty to smirk at. After all, while some good people surely lost out over the Fyre Festival debacle, the situation as a whole is undeniably amusing.

You couldn’t write a more perfect story of high profile failure. Well, that’s not entirely true—If you recall, back when the story of the Fyre Festival’s trainwreck was breaking, Seth Rogen tweeted that he and musical comedy trio The Lonely Island (comprised of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone) had already been working on a new movie about a music festival that goes horribly wrong. Turns out a spoof film about the dumpster fire of a festival is in the works, courtesy of Seth Rogen and The Lonely Island. The funniest part? Rogen said the idea of a festival going horribly wrong was theirs first.

The project was first mentioned by Rogen and The Lonely Island back in 2017, shortly after what should have been a “fyre” festival took place. “This seems like a good time to mention the movie we are making with @thelonelyisland about a music festival that goes HORRIBLY WRONG,” Rogen tweeted at the time. Seth Rogen and The Lonely Island are capitalizing on the failure of the now-infamous Fyre Festival. Following Ja Rule and investor tech entrepreneur Billy McFarland’s ridiculed Bahamian concert series, the comedians announced on Twitter Friday that they are working on a movie with a strikingly similar scenario.

Fyre Festival was touted as a “luxury” music festival with scheduled performances from acts like Blink-182, Migos, Major Lazer, Pusha T, and Disclosure. Following the Fyre Festival fiasco, Seth Rogen revealed that he and the comedy troupe the Lonely Island were secretly working on a movie that shared a similar plot with the canceled fest.
