The world premiere of the based-on-a-true-story drama Just Mercy, starring Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx, had people talking Oscar buzz on the Friday night TIFF red carpet at Roy Thomson Hall.

But Foxx, playing a wrongfully condemned death row inmate in 1989 Alabama whose case is taken on by a Harvard-educated lawyer (Jordan), said it was a passion project for him because of what the movie might do socially 30 years later.
