Toronto Fashion Week and RE\SET™ 003 Day Three Recap

Day three featured innovative fashion presentations by top Canadian designers Mani Jassal, Pedram Karimi, Andrew Coimbra x UNCUFFED, HAYLEY ELSAESSER, S.P. Badu and fundraiser Fashion Heals

TORONTO, ON – On day three of Toronto Fashion Week®, top Canadian designers sent models down the runway to showcase their curated Fall/Winter 2018 collections.

Set inside the city’s premier luxury retail destination, Yorkville Village (55 Avenue Rd.), the day kicked off with Fashion Talks™, produced in partnership with CAFA™. Host Donna Bishop chatted with Academy Award Nominated Costume Designer Luis Sequeira and Assistant Costume Designer Ann Steel about Fashion, Costume and The Shape of Water. 

In the RE\SET™ studio, Canadian evening and bridal wear designer, Mani Jassalunveiled a flower-filled ‘Garden of Desire’ collection. Eclectic, audacious and ethereal, her collection used traditional Indian fabrics with intricate beading and metal details in disruptively sexy silhouettes. Known for his androgynous contemporary designs, Pedram Karimi collection aimed to push social and political boundaries by creating minimal, yet poetic garments that adapt to any wardrobe. The Fall/Winter 2018 collection, entitled ‘Anti-Consumerism’ lashed out at fast-fashion and urged the consumer to focus on quality over quantity by creating timeless and versatile coordinates made for the fashion forward man and woman. Andrew Coimbra x UNCUFFED’s collection merged tech and innovation with traditional leather-working procedures. The Fall/Winter 2018 collection incorporated new materials such as metallic and laser cut floral leathers to creative a striking line of unique winter accessories. Themed ‘Cosmic Dread’HAYLEY ELSAESSER sent models down the runway in colourful and bold creations. Her colourful prints appears alongside a bevy of textural fabrics including faux fur, faux leather, plaid, shimmering metallics and faux snakeskin.

Back in the studio, S.P. Badu incorporated athleisure separates with urban flair for a cohesive unisex collection with an aggressive approach to minimalism that challenges gender and garment construction. Rounding out the final day of Toronto Fashion Week was Fashion Heals – a fundraising gala in support of Toronto SickKids Hospital to raise awareness and funds for the Innovation Grant for Pediatric Cancer Research and Care, enabling SickKids researchers to develop new procedures, therapies and treatments for children with cancer. Celebrities including Paul Mason, Pooja Handa (CP24 Host), Joan Kelley Walker and Gregoriane Minot (The Real Housewives of Toronto) walked the runway along with SickKids patients past and present, as well as SickKids medical staff.

The captivating looks on the runway were accentuated by makeup from the beautyBOUTIQUE™ sponsored by Shoppers Drug Mart and award-winning hairstylist and nail expert Victoria Radford.

The RE/SET™ Designer Showroom featured Canadian designers in a consumer-facing market space located on the upper level of Yorkville Village. Guests had the opportunity to meet and shop directly from designers including Grayes, Biko, Dolorous, Alan AndersonCuchuraChristopher BatesPedram Karimi and Hilary MacMillan.
