For once, Canadians have to wonder what Rick Mercer is thinking about.
The country’s most famous ranter is unemployed after almost two decades split between “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” and “Rick Mercer Report.”
He’s using the abundance of time he finds himself with to do other things besides rant: like guest-star on other people’s TV shows or host the Just for Laughs national tour, which touches down at Roy Thomson Hall on Sunday.
“I’m happy to have some time to do things that I wouldn’t normally do,” Mercer says in a phone interview. “You know, even a small thing like Jann Arden has a sitcom and last season she asked, ‘Would you like to come on the show?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, sure.’
